The Nobile Contrada del Nicchio

The shell of the Terzo di San Martino, in the southern quarter of the Pispini.

The Nobile Contrada del Nicchio occupies the southern district around Via dei Pispini and Porta Pispini, in the Terzo di San Martino. Its emblem is a crowned scallop shell flanked by two red-coral branches, joined by three Savoy knots with a red and a silver rose, on a blue field. Its colours are blue with yellow and red.

Title and identity

The Nicchio carries the honorific Nobile. Its società is the Società La Pania.

Patron and feast

The contrada's titolare is St Cajetan of Thiene (San Gaetano da Thiene). Liturgical feast: 7 August. Festa Titolare: around the feast. Annual programme: published each year. The contrada's church is the Oratorio di San Gaetano da Thiene, built in 1680.

Museum and what to see

The Museo della Contrada del Nicchio, on Via dei Pispini, holds the contrada's drappelloni (the oldest dating to 1748), historic costumes, Masgalani silver and sacred objects. Visits are available by reservation or during announced special openings.
