The Contrada di Valdimontone

The ram of the Terzo di San Martino, on the rise around Santa Maria dei Servi.

The Contrada di Valdimontone occupies the southern quarter around the Basilica of Santa Maria dei Servi and Via di Valdimontone, in the Terzo di San Martino. Its emblem is a crowned rampant ram, and its colours are red and yellow with white.

Identity

The Valdimontone lies in the Terzo di San Martino; its società is the Società Castelmontorio, and its rival is the Nicchio.

Patron and feast

The contrada's titolare is Our Lady of Good Counsel (Madonna del Buon Consiglio). Liturgical feast: 26 April. Festa Titolare: around the feast. Annual programme: published each year. The contrada's church is the Oratorio della Santissima Trinità.

Museum and what to see

The Museo della Contrada di Valdimontone, on Via di Valdimontone, is a purpose-built complex designed by the architects Giovanni Michelucci with Bruno Sacchi — commissioned in 1974 and inaugurated on 22 June 1997 — conceived as a spatial journey integrated into the historic fabric. Visits are available by reservation or during announced special openings.
